Interactive data and graphics visualization

We convert large volumes of data into graphs, tables and maps that are easy to explore. We connect the sources, prepare the aggregates and build dashboards in Grafana or fully customized interfaces.

Background

When this service makes sense

For teams that need to understand large volumes of events, traffic, transactions or measurements, we build interfaces that allow data exploration and investigation of deviations.

  • Main needdata visualization
  • Role in the projectApplications, dashboards and integrations that gather important processes into a more manageable system.
  • Result pursuedWe convert large volumes of data into graphs, tables and maps that are easy to explore. We connect the sources, prepare the aggregates and build dashboards in Grafana or fully customized interfaces.

Deliverables

What usually comes into the project

The exact list is adjusted after the audit, but these modules frequently appear in data visualization and interactive graphics projects.

01Connection of data sources
02Documented aggregates and indicators
03Interactive graphics and time series
04Filter tables and details
05Maps and distributions
06Role access and controlled update

Data in context

From a large amount of data to a verifiable explanation

An increase in traffic does not say on its own whether there are more customers, automatic requests or a technical problem. We put the indicators in the relationship, we compare periods, and we allow the transition from the big picture to the relevant events.

  • The appropriate form for each questionWe use lines and areas for developments, comparison bars, distribution histograms, pattern maps and tables to check the exact values.
  • Exploration and ComparisonWe add filters over the period, source or segment, proximity over intervals and access to details. For example, a peak of applications can be traced up to the application, route or region from which it originates.
  • Large volumes, usable interfaceWe prepare the query, aggregation, pagination and cache memory according to volume. The browser receives the required level of detail without downloading the entire history for each chart.
  • Indicators with clear definitionsWe document units, formulas, time zones and the frequency of the update. We separate the data missing from zero and make visible the moment of the last update.

Choice

Grafana, custom interface or management reports?

We choose the tool by data and by how it will be used. Data visualization can complete an executive dashboard without replacing it.

Grafana Dashboards

Best suited when: you follow time series, traffic, performance or operational events and you need panels and alerts.

Keep in mind: the connectors, permissions and available functions must be checked for the selected edition and sources.

Custom interface

Best suited when: you need special explorations, complex tables or visualizations integrated in the company's application and identity.

Keep in mind: interactions and performance must be validated by representative volumes of data.

Executive Dashboard

Best suited when: management follows a limited set of business indicators and regular reports.

Keep in mind: Summaries must keep in touch with the definitions and sources from which they come.

Quality signals

The data must remain correct when the volume increases

We validate the calculations and response time on representative data. For Big Data projects, we establish separately collection, storage, historical preservation and visualization layer.

  • Database connectors, APIs and monitoring sources, according to the project.
  • Aggregates that retain relevant information and explain the level of detail displayed.
  • Filters, legends and consistent units on all views.
  • Permissions applied in the data source or application, not just by hiding the panels.
  • Alerts and checks for delayed data, interrupted synchronisation and threshold overrun.
  • Tests with the history and number of users agreed prior to launch.

Connection

Service works better when it's connected to the rest of the project

Any service works better when connected to the rest of the ecosystem: content, SEO, data, operation, hosting and maintenance.

  • Custom applications
  • CRM
  • Executive dashboards
  • API integration

Frequently Asked Questions

Before we begin the project

Choice, stages and support for data visualization and interactive graphics.

01 / Choice

What's useful to know

What does viewing data mean for a company?

Means the presentation of data through graphs, tables and maps that make developments, comparisons and deviations visible. SIDECUBE also builds integration with sources, filters and access to details.

Can you represent large volumes of traffic or transactions?

Yes. We first set the volume, the frequency of the update and the questions sought. We prepare aggregates and queries so that the interface displays relevant data without loading the entire history into the browser.

You only work with Grafana?

No. We set up Grafana when it fits the project and we develop our own interfaces when special views or interactions are needed. We can also integrate the reporting tools already used by the company.

Are the charts updated in real time?

They can be updated periodically or in close time to the real one. The range depends on the availability of sources, the volume of data, the costs of the interviews and the concrete need for operation.

How do you protect the data displayed?

We define access to roles and we separate data between organisations or teams. For sensitive information we apply restrictions in the application and in the sources; if necessary, the reporting area can be accessible via VPN.

02 / Planning

Purpose, budget and stages

What can the project include?

For data visualization and interactive graphics, the starting points are: Connecting data sources; Aggregates and documented indicators; Interactive graphics and time series; Filter tables and details; Maps and distributions; role access and controlled update. In the offer we specify deliverables, limits and responsibilities; the list adapts to your situation.

How do we set the budget and the timetable?

We assess workflows, roles, business rules, integrations and data volumes. We separate the first usable version from later extensions, with deliverables and acceptance criteria for each stage.

03 / Continuity

Verification and support

How do you verify the result before handover?

We are going through real scenarios with the team: data input, approvals, permissions and error handling. For reports and integrations we also check the consistency with the sources, not just the aspect of the interface.

What happens after handover?

At handover, we clarify access to code and infrastructure, documentation and operational responsibilities. Updates, monitoring and new modules are covered by a separate support plan.
